Arrangements have been made to hold a trade fair each year with the objective of increasing the market opportunities of the local small scale and medium scale enterprisers of the textile industry and the institutions of the Provincial Councils and the Cooperative Societies of the textile industry, disseminating the handloom textile industry fabrics among new local and foreign consumers and issuing to the market high quality products under facile and fair prices.

This trade fair is slated to be held during the festive season of March or April each year and arrangements will be made to publicize the event through the Departmental website, electronic (television & radio channels) and print (newspapers & other notices) media.

Arrangements to hold the National Handloom Textile Industry Exhibition and Trade Fair in the month of December each year have been made with a view to introducing innovative creations, encouraging the enterprisers in the sector and also to honing the hidden talents of the designers. Those who take part in this event will be,

• Provincial Departments of Textile Industries / Departments of Industries;
• Cooperative Societies of Textile Manufacturers;
• Private Enterprises and,
• Officers from the Department of Textile Industries.

Through the display of designs / fashion show which is held in parallel to handloom textile industry exhibition aimed at disseminating the art of handloom textiles among the masses, introducing novel handloom creations to the overseas market as well as at expanding the market opportunities, avenues have been set for the designers to savour new experiences in the ever changing world of fashion. At this event, the designer experts in the modelling field showcase their fashions and the newcomers to the field have also been provided with opportunities here to bring forth their skills to the limelight.

The Department of Textile Industries is making every effort to set up textile villages in liaison with the projects in respect of which the trainees completed their continuous training over a period of 06 months towards the upliftment and promotion of the local handloom textile industry and also to detail such trainees into taking up self-employment through the help of their training exposure. The Department will supply handloom apparatus and other implements together with bassic raw materials for those trainees who complete their training successfully.
